Cupping is performed by introducing heat into a glass cup and placing it immediately on the skin. The vacuum created produces a suction effect that increases blood circulation to the local area, relaxes muscle tissue, and releases the factors causing pain. This encourages the flow of Qi and blood in the area beneath the cup. It is used to treat colds, lung infections, muscle and joint pain, and much more. Red marks, swelling, and circular bruising may appear, but only for a few hours or days.
